The Honeoye Falls Bill Koch Youth Ski League is the perfect way to introduce nordic cross-country skiing to children aged 3 to 14. Older kids are also welcomed. Established in 1973, the Honeoye Falls BKYSL has taught hundreds of area children the simple skills needed to love cross country skiing, and provided the basics for pursuing nordic racing.
We meet every Saturday morning, December thru March, from 9:30 to 11 ish at Mendon Ponds Park, 10 miles south of Rochester, NY.
2002-03 Schedule
We hike and orienteer on the same trails that are groomed for both skating (freestyle) and classic-tracked cross country skiing (once there is adequate snow cover.)
Directions to Mendon Ponds Park:
From the north (Rochester): Take Rte 65 south from Brighton. Just after you pass over the NYS Thruway, the Canfield Rd. entrance to the park comes up on your left. Take the left onto Canfield; you're now winding east toward our meeting spot at the Northeast Meadow. Just after passing Douglas Rd. on your right, Canfield rises up a hill. Stay on Canfield and you'll come upon cars parked on both sides of the road....you've found us! There is no lodge there, just a brown trail maps box and a fire hydrant.
We encourage you to contact us, or just show up at our next meeting...dress appropriately and bring equipment to have fun!
Mark the date each year: Used and New Nordic Ski Swap on the Saturday BEFORE Thanksgiving. Since kids grow so fast, the Honeoye Falls Bill Koch Ski League sponsors a used X-C ski swap and sale, held on the Saturday before Thanksgiving each year. Place: Honeoye Falls-Lima Middle School Cafeteria, 9am-2 pm. (come early for best selection!), 619 Quaker Meeting House Road, Honeoye Falls, NY
Directions: From the intersections of Rtes 251 and 65, travel east on 251 for a very short time. Quaker Meeting house Rd. comes up quickly on your right. Turn right and travel 3 miles, thru 2 four-way stop signs, until you see the Middle School on your right. Our sale is held in the gym and cafeteria on the southern side of the building.
